Several universities use Leeson House as a base for their fieldwork. Geology, Meteorology and Environmental Science post and under graduate groups utilise the spacious accommodation, grounds, classrooms and computer suites.
At certain times of the year, we have space for more University groups. While most groups would choose to be self led, our experienced and highly qualified tutors would be able to lead or offer advice with local fieldwork.
Please get in touch if you’re looking for a University fieldtrip in sunny south Dorset!

Leeson House is the ideal venue for Primary to A Level fieldtrips. The house is a secluded Grade Two mansion situated near Swanage, Dorset on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. It is close to many classic geography, geology and biology fieldwork sites and set within 7 acres of inspiring and diverse grounds.
Leeson House can accommodate up to 80 students and 12 accompanying staff and residential bookings are taken 7 days a week throughout the whole year. We also offer a wide range of day visits and outreach activities.
Thank you to all schools that have booked us already for 2023. We still have day visit opportunities for this coming summer, please get in touch soon. Many residential dates have now gone for 2023/2024 but a few do still remain, please get in touch!
We’ve just received a brand new suite of desktop computers for our classrooms and an extension is planned for this coming year to add additional showers and toilets to the main house.
We’re also looking forward to offering more opportunities during the school holidays – watch this space!
